Spring Driving Tips

Halco Mobile Auto Glass Repair

Everybody knows that oil and water don’t mix. And April showers can make it hard for your tires to get good traction. As the rain builds up on the road surface, oily dirt is forced from the asphalt and sits on top of the roadway — potentially making it difficult to maintain control of your vehicle.

Never hit the brakes hard if you start to slide — rather press slowly and evenly. Be sure your tires are properly inflated.

In the unfortunate instance of a damaged windshield needing repair or replacement, call a Halco Glass technician today for fast and professional service.

Your Windshield in Cold Weather

Sudden frigid conditions around the Lower Mainland area could cause your car’s windshield to develop or increase the size of existing cracks. Glass expands and contracts due to temperature so it’s important to be aware of sudden temperature changes.

Never use boiling water to defrost your windshield. Instead, turn on the defroster and let the windshield warm up slowly. However, be careful not to set the defroster too high. Let the windshield warm up gradually so the glass isn’t shocked by cold temperatures outside and warm temperatures inside, which can also lead to cracking or developing larger cracks from ones that already exist.

A Time For Remembrance

Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a moment of silence to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict, as well as in peace. We remember the more than 2,300,000 Canadians who have served throughout our nation’s history and the more than 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A national ceremony is held at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, where the Governor-General of Canada presides over the ceremony. It is also attended by the Prime Minister, other government officials, representatives of Veterans’ organizations, diplomatic representatives, and other dignitaries — along with Veterans as well as the general public.

Halloween in 2020

Celebrate less socially and trick-or-treat locally this year. Halloween in 2020 can still be fun if done safely by following these tips:

  • Respect homes by staying away if the lights are out.
  • Keep to your local neighborhood this year.
  • Avoid trick-or-treating in busy indoor areas (like malls) since there may not be enough space to distance.
  • Trick-or-treat in a small social group, stick to six people.
  • Leave space between you and other groups to reduce crowding on stairs and sidewalks.
  • Wash your hands before you go out, when you get home, and before eating treats.
  • Discard broken packaging or homemade treats if you’re unsure of their source.

And as always, wear reflective strips or carry a flashlight to make you visible to motorists.

Safe Driving in Fall Weather

Fall weather brings shorter daylight hours and unpredictable driving conditions. This time of the year is especially critical for motorists to see and be seen.

Clear off your windshield

Keep your windshield clean without using products that accentuate the sun’s glare. Replace your old wiper blades with fresh ones to eliminate streaking, and always scrape off any frost in the morning before hitting the road.

Use your headlights

Make sure that your headlights work, and then turn them on whenever it’s foggy, raining, or while driving between dusk and dawn. And remember, when driving in fog, only use low beam settings so you won’t blind oncoming drivers, or yourself.

Traveling with Your Pet

If your pet travels with you in your car, this information will help ensure they stay safe.

Buckle up—even pets

Just like people, animals need to be buckled up for safety. Having your pet properly restrained can prevent them from escaping, flying forward in your vehicle, or being hurt in a crash.

Keeping your pet secured in your vehicle also prevents you from driving while distracted. Driver distraction is a leading cause of car crashes in B.C.
